Hi am I right in assuming I am not covered by my domestic and community car insurance if I do home visits and I would need to upgrade it to business use and pay extra. Work seem to think they are covered but I think they are just saying it and fobbing me off.

thanks

I’ve had the same issue and upgraded my car from normal ‘social, domestic and pleasure’ to include business. It cost approx £30 for a years cover. I gave the receipt to the PM and legged it. Got reimbursed but had to stand firm. Not sure what your community car insurance is though tbh.

Best to check with your insurance company as some will be absolutely fine with that, esp if not a daily or regular occurrence.

Even when I was working as a DN there was no significant difference(if any, it was a few years ago now!) in premium, they just need to know.

You also need business cover if you work at more than one surgery within the practice

You need individual business cover, as long as you are using using your own car then usually there is no extra. I use one the the online comparison sites and put with and without to check no extra charged, although you may have to pay additional to alter an existing policy for this year. Ask the surgery to pay the additional.

[:)] Hi,
I have been using my car for home visits for 10 years. I only do visits one day a week. You have to inform your insurance company but I have never had to pay a penny over my normal insurance. As previously said you just have to inform them.
Best of luck
